Your horses are gorgeous; Sundance looks like the last horse Elvis Presley had; it was still out grazing at Graceland when we where there;thanks for your remarks regarding our horses; The big one Ali has great breeding and most of his direct relations are top dressage horses but he was in a show jumping yard and was over worked that he got stale and wouldn't do anything; Kate is having to re-school him:

Thank you pelly! It's refreshing to know that Sundance looks like one of Elvis' horses....and he's still living too! I'm so glad your daughter rescued Ali before he was put down....that would have been soooo sad if he had been put down Just because a horse is tired is no reason Not to let him live

Finally got a picture of Brin ;D She's the new horse the owners brought to the pasture this Spring. Brin was shy, not wanting to come close to the deck so I could take her picture...but, yesterday she finally ventured close enough so I could snap her pic. I think she looks a little like Barney with the white markings on her head.

These horses are purely for enjoyment and well taken care of ;D The owners ride them a couple times a week in the pasture and then a couple times a year, they take them up to the mountains to ride on the trails. They usually dress in full western wear when riding them. It's an awesome site to see

I bet it is; you'll have to take some pics of them when they do!Our girls bought some lovely western saddles when we were in Tuscon; the wrangler from the ranch told them where to get the best deals: they wanted the real thing not a tourist type;In England they would have cost a fortune; they paid $398 for the two:so it wasn't bad: they used them for riding on the ranch; so we didn't have to pay taxes on them when we took them through customs:

That's awesome that your girls are interested in western riding They sure did get a Good Deal on those saddles too! ;D Here's a couple pics I took last summer of the owners on horse back. These were taken in the early morning when the sun was coming up in the East off my deck so they aren't the best pictures with the sun So Bright! This is Barney with his owner riding him... This is Babe, Barney & Rusty (the white horse cut out of the pic, Rusty was put down just before this last spring I was told. I guess he was real sick during the winter ) They board the horses in another pasture in the winter time so I never see them then. Poor Old Rusty I never could get a good picture of him before he passed. If you look at the first picture again, you can see Rusty & his owner riding off in the distance.

Here's a picture of Curly after a hard winter and one of him during the summer. Curly in the early spring after a cold hard winter looks skinny and under nourished Curly during the summer months is Fat and Sassy I have to admit, I was worried when the owners brought him back Sooo thin that spring

they are beautiful horses. i love the chestnut (think it's called sorrel over by you there Connie) as you're saying about the horses being lean after winter, it's usually better from them to come into spring like this. spring grass is really fattening, it's just as unhealthy for a horse to be obese as is it to be very underweight. plus they can be at higher risk of something called 'laminitis'. it's a crippling illness that affects the horses feet, mostly their fronts. it can mean a death sentence if it's not caught in time. this web page explains it far better than i could www.olympus.net/personal/pvd/101.html

Well thanks for pointing that out ;D I'm sure the owners know this but I didn't! I was a little worried when I saw them last Spring because they seemed to be thinner than the Spring before. They sure do Love it when they're brought back to pasture with all that grass they fatten up in no time! The owners start ridding them a few times a week after that and take them for a month trip up to the mountains for riding the trails toward the end of June every year.

the riding sounds fab we don't have very much riding where i am. well we ride in an arena, but to go out in the countryside, we're pretty much hemmed in, so we don't tend to go out for jaunts. it gets so very boring going round in circles all the time
