This morning I found my little Cally laying on her side in her tank. As I'm writing this she's now on her side not moving and I fear she's gone She's been very sick for a couple days just laying in a corner at the bottom of her tank. I've spent the last two days doing internet searches for Oranda diseases and have come to the conclusion she has Dropsy which is Not curable her scales are protruding with a pine cone appearance. I was hoping it was swim bladder because she would float up to the top of the tank and turn upside down before she started laying at the bottom. Swim bladder can be treated unlike Dropsy. I just checked And Sadly Cally is gone I wish I had kept Topper now instead of giving Him up! I thought he was badgering Cally but ~ in the gold fish world ~ he may have been trying to help her? I'll never know Now my new little Oranda is all by himself swimming erratically back and forth looking for Cally I'll have to get him a companion right away (after I do a water change.) BTW ~ I don't have the heart to flush Cally so I put her in a container with a lid in her tank water. I will bury her next to my Garfield (Persian Cat) and Sissy Girl ( Tabby cat.) I hope she doesn't mind but then they are all together anyway over the Rainbow Bridge just waiting till I can join them. *Rest in Peace little Cally*

Oh Connie, I am so sorry! He was such a pretty fish. I hope what ever he had doesn't effect Puffin. I was really sad when my angel fish died also. He is now swimming at the Rainbow bridge with all the other fishies.

Thanks Karen ~ Yes Cally was a pretty fish ~ I still can't believe what happened it was So All of a sudden. One day she was happy and Healthy and the next day just laying at the bottom of the tank and not swimming or eating I did go to Petsmart today to get another baby Oranda so Puffin would have a playmate. The new baby is a little smaller than Puffin and only has red on the top of his head like Topper did. I thought Puffin would be happy with his new little friend but instead all he did was chase the poor thing all over the tank. The poor baby was scared and gasping. I don't know what could have caused this kind of behavior in Puffin? Very weird anyway they seem to have settle down a bit and hopefully become friends. When I was at the store I talked to the Aquatic Specialist about Cally. He told me the other fish might get Dropsy too and to watch for red streaks in their tails. He told me about a medication that Can cure Dropsy if you catch it in time. I bought the product just in case I need it ~ cross your fingers I Don't need it! In Cally's case I didn't see any signs of the illness until it was too late And I was told by another So Called Specialist that Dropsy is incurable, Period! This person even told me that Cally didn't have this illness when I spoke to him on the phone and later went Into the store to buy the medication he told me to buy. I found out today that he sold me the wrong stuff and I treated Cally with it not knowing. That was yesterday and today she's dead I was told today also I would be able to get my money back because of the wrong advice about Cally and the meds.. Hopefully I don't have any problems with Puffin and his playmate! Wish me Luck!

Sadly yesterday the new baby oranda I bought from Petsmart died ... from What? ... I haven't a clue He might have been sick when I bought him because he wasn't eating At All ~ I give up! Puffin is just going to have to be a loner oranda goldfish for a awhile. He seems happy but who Really knows if a fish is Happy or not

that is very sad connie. i am sorry again. I know how frustrating and depressing it can be with fish sometimes which is one reason why i dont keep them anymore.
maybe it was something in the water?

Do you think Puffin has anything to do with the other fish dieing? He seems to be ok but not the others. You can probably get a refund or another fish. By the way, Rita just got a Pekingnese puppy. I haven't seen her but I hear she is a cutie.

At first I thought Puffin might have had something to do with the new baby fish dying because he wouldn't let the poor thing eat anything but the way the baby acted was like he had some kind of disease ~ I just hope what ever it was Puffin doesn't get it and die too I'm So glad Rita was able to get another puppy right away. It will help her with her grief over losing Mira Please keep us posted on the new puppy like her name and Pictures of course
