You can either buy egg food commercially prepared or make it yourself at home. There are several good recipies for making egg food for birds on the internet. The only problem is that home made egg food can spoil much faster then the commercial dry kind.
I priced egg food at the closest pet store in my area and it ranges from 6.99 a bag to 13.99 a bag depending on what kind you want. To make egg food at home, and depending on the ingredients you have to use and if you have those ingredients already the cost varies. For me since I only had the eggs and seed I had to buy the bread crumbs, safflower oil and cod liver oil, so it ended up costing me around 10 dollars and I made a small amount of food. Of course I could still make more if I needed to and freeze a large amount until I needed to use it.
In any case I chose to try the freshly made egg food this time. I may choose the commercially made kind next to see how they like it. But the Finches LOVE the fresh egg food once they tasted it.
