Yesterday I had to take Buddy to the vet. He hasn't been feeling very well since the 4th. At first I thought it was from all the fireworks but then he's never reacted this way before with any noise. Buddy's been hiding under the bed a lot lately and won't go outside, even to go potty. He won't go for his favorite walk, drink water or even eat unless I give him wet food and stay with him to make sure he eats. I noticed he was limping on his hind leg but didn't know why? I was worried it might be his hip or something like that but thought that it couldn't be that! Buddy's only 5 years old! So, I decided to make a vet appointment for Buddy yesterday. They did a complete exam with ex rays, ran blood and urine tests. He's dehydrated so they gave me the option of leaving him there or they could inject a solution to hydrate him and send him home. Of course I chose to take him home! It turns out Buddy has a bad knee and I won't know how bad until the Radiologists looks at the ex rays. Also the urine test showed too many white blood cells indicating a urinary infection so he's on antibiotics for that and an inflammatory for his bad knee. I won't know till morning what the blood tests turn up. Poor little Buddy ): he still hasn't taken a pee because the vet said it probably hurts to urinate ): As soon as the medications start working he shouldn't have a problem, I hope! This morning I tried once more to take Buddy outside to potty but he wouldn't have any part of it, so I picked him up to take him outside with Scruffy. Buddy just laid down on the grass and pee'd all over himself I brought him back in the house and gave him a baby shampoo bath. The bath seemed to perk him up a bit but then he went right back to what he did before, hiding. I talked to the vet tonight to see if the results had come back on the ex rays and blood tests. He told me the blood work had come back fine but the ex rays results wouldn't be in till tomorrow. The vet said Buddy is probably avoiding going potty because it hurts when he does and he's not walking because his knee hurts. He also said it could be a back injury but they won't know until the results are back I just want my sweet little happy go lucky Buddy back Poor little baby

Thanks Tina, I will try As usual since all this began, I had to carry Buddy outside this morning to try to get him to go potty. I had him on his leash so he wouldn't lay down when I sat him on the grass. There's a light rain this morning and I was sure Buddy wouldn't like it but to my amazement he pulled me toward the fence and he actually went potty ;D He was a little wet when we came in the house so I got out a bath towel to dry him, (he's always loved that ) then he laid down under my computer desk right on top of the towel. I decided to try a little water by placing my hand in the bowl so he would lick my fingers with the water. He lapped a little water from the bowl. That's good since he hasn't been able to drink water in quite a while now ;D I also decided to try placing some of his dry food on the towel and to my amazement again, he ate it ;D The vet told me it would take the medications about 48 hours to take affect and it's been just about 48 hours now. I think Buddy's on the mend, I'm SO relieved but the ex ray results haven't come back yet so I still don't know if it's his knee, back or something else? He still can't walk on his hind leg, poor baby Hopefully the news isn't bad and he needs surgery At least he's going potty now, eating and drinking water, at least for this morning, so hopefully he will be right back to my happy go lucky sweet little puppy real soon

Thanks Tina, I sure will give Buddy a big hug for you He's still not himself but I'm hoping he'll improve a little more each day. I miss Buddy's company He's always been right beside me and sometimes it was a little annoying but I really miss that now that he's been sick. The vet said if he doesn't fully improve I need to bring him in to run more tests. Keep your fingers crossed he doesn't have to go through that again

Hi Connie, oh my gosh I am so sorry to hear Buddy is having a hard time right now, has his prostate been checked? I could be very wrong here, but just something to look into?
Did they get the x-ray results back to you yet?
Keep us posted, I will be praying for you and Buddy.

Hi Lucinda, thanks for the sentiments. No, they haven't checked his prostate. Is that something that should be checked? Buddy hasn't went potty all day and the last time was yesterday morning. I'm SO worried about him. He just lays in the same spot and won't get up for anything. I have to carry him outside and serve him food or water by hand, otherwise he wouldn't eat or drink anything.

I owned a dog quite a few years ago that had an enlarge prostate and had a lot of the same symptoms until we found out that is what is was.
Please keep us posted, :-*Lucinda

Thanks for the advice Lucinda and Tina! I'm going to call Buddy's doctor today to ask about the prostate to see if that's a possibility. I took Buddy outside last night and with a lot of coxing and pleading I finally got him to take a poop and a long pee (sorry about the graphic words used here) but defecate and urinate are too clinical for me right now I took Buddy and Scruffy out this morning and went back in the house for a minute to get my coffee. (I have a fenced yard so it's safe for them to be alone.) I don't know if Buddy pee'd but he did poop while I was in the house, so that's good. I'll keep everyone posted on his progress.

I couldn't talk to the doctor today, she was out of the office, so I'll try tomorrow and if not then on Monday. I was able to find out that the ex rays were normal which doesn't make since if he has fluid on his knee Buddy's been on a inflammatory for that and an antibiotic for the urinary infection. Buddy did go potty today but I still have to carry him outside. This is getting really old fast! I almost think he enjoys me caring him. Buddy can walk, he just doesn't want to. He'd rather have me carry him. If I didn't know better I'd think he was enjoying all the attention he's getting from being sick

This could be the case, but you never know.
